150 of the thousands of objects in the Society’s collection
will be the feature of the exhibit. Some of the items on
display include the table on which Nathan Denison signed the
surrender after the Battle of Wyoming in 1778; the original
fireplace grate on which Jesse Fell conducted his experiment
with anthracite coal, igniting the Industrial Revolution in our
area; the three-piece silver set from the U.S.S. Wilkes-Barre
from World War II; the flag carried by Ricketts’ Battery
during the Civil War; various campaign posters; nineteenth
century prints; and two Medals of Honor issued after the Civil
War. One of the highlights of the exhibit is the return of
Sitting Bull, a life-size replica statue that has been in
storage for several years.
The exhibit is scheduled to be on display from March 14
through the end of August at the Society's Museum 69 South
Franklin Street.
